Global Digital Citizenship

HP Sprout

1.) While using this technology, students will need to be aware of their safety, be ethical, and follow the law while online. For safety, students should avoid any inappropriate websites that are not secure. They could run the chance of downloading viruses onto the computer, finding inappropriate websites, or communicating with an online predator. Students' should be informed on how to avoid all of this so they can practice safety on the internet with the HP Sprout. By being ethical, students' should stay anonymous and confidential. This means, they shouldn't give their name or any personal information out online to anyone or any company. This follows along with safety, because if students stay confidential and anonymous then their personal identity stays secure and they are physically safe. In addition, being ethical means that students avoid plagiarism by citing their sources. Following the law online means students are avoiding things like illegal downloading, identity theft, and they keep the privacy and security of themselves and others. Overall, students will be safe, ethical, and maintain the law by being responsible with the internet and being mindful of what information they share online.

2.) One thing students should be aware of when using the HP Sprout is their communication online. When using various platforms, students should avoid cyber-bullying and be aware of the dangers social media brings. In addition, students have the responsibility to report anything inappropriate, malicious, or unsafe when using the internet on the HP Sprout.

3.) One barrier students could encounter with the Sprout is the lack of knowledge of how to use it. The Sprout is very expensive and I doubt that most students will have one at home. Some students might have had experience with it in another class, however, that still puts the other students at a disadvantage of this technological knowledge. Another barrier is that not all students will have access to this technology. If a classroom does not have access to a class set of Sprouts for all students, some students won't get the opportunity to experience it or access it to apply it to their learning. This is also dependent on how a teacher would incorporate this technology into their classroom learning environment.

4.) The Sprout could enhance global awareness and cultural understanding because students are able to collaborate with others. This could mean collaborating locally or globally. By doing this, students will get to experience perspectives other than their own. I don't think the technology will limit either global awareness or cultural understanding. As long as there is internet, students will have the opportunity to enhance their global awareness and cultural understanding.
